 Going Under - 001

by Harmanjot Kaur

"Change is the law of Nature."

The poem 'The Brook' sheds the light on the beauty of the life of humans and men alike:

'For the men may come and men may go, but I go on forever.'

Simile to this situation from a person constantly dependent on others for the emotional needs and distress of being alone, now you have finally learnt to give selflessly to others. Now you are happy even to let go the things for a greater cause, whether it is donating new clothes at the time of the Russian Ukraine war which is probably lasting for a month now!

People such as our younger siblings as Lovepreet came to you for help, you served her well. Looking around in silence, we utter some words and finally went the separate roads as you were in the mission 'Underground' and July Revolution. But we still cannot exchange enough words as we were not in congruence due to differences in choices such as Sidhu Muse Wala and Punjabi Fan and me having a passion for Heavy Metal and Rock. We settled the storm by agreeing to 'Safe and Sound' by Taylor Swift.

Thank God, my greatest motivation i.e. haircut was there waiting for me on March 18th. Flabberghasted, everybody now forgets your name and some question it as a bold move. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot. Little less time getting ready for law school.

Things unravelled in a unique way when you realised that your HMA madam didn't know your name. Amen! what a relief. Your Labour Law and Jurisprudence teacher is the same one now. You enjoy the void and warmth of a cosy environment sans the distress of much politics and contracts!!

You get compared to Gul Panag and some say Anushka Sharma and others call you Kiran Bedi. Although you are passionate about your studies, you have now shifted priorities.

You are 'An Okay' when you don't know some Income Tax Act and even sitting on stairs in front of your class. You care less about making your eyelids lidden with a long 'to-do list' and weird courses which you once complete and never look back.

You are now a more refined and updated version of your own self. You don't fear Maths as you did before. Perhaps Shankar IAS is something you read in just 2 days! (Just after you bought it)

You have learnt the importance of having limited resources. You learnt emotional intelligence, ethics and attitude-aptitude topics in actual life.

You now are well equipped with where to stop. Starting a mundane day with the sight of Spectrum, Sriram Economy, Optional and Lucent, Quip in one day and the other day putting your boot on the hooks is no longer the story.

You have learnt the art to think, stop, plan and act. You don't make yourself mad about Snake, people who have betrayed you or who do not talk. The principle of 'Anekantavada' and the plurality of the judgement became a reality.

Moreover, you have learnt how not to let anyone overpower you. The art of taking bold decisions and courage of conviction is a key player in your life now. You have learnt how to invest some money and buy chapattis in order to squeeze out time for your revisions and readings.

Yeah, there are certainly days of distress and anger. However, these can be easily managed with long showers, poetry and halwaa encapsulating reminisce of sweet-bitter memories of samjhii maaiii..

Days turned around and you've learnt to stick to a mechanical schedule, not overdoing your research work. You sans need to listen to music and now give a little less damn about what people will think about your decisions.

You now are more acceptable to help people whether it was your sibling for Word Power Made Easy or helping a hermit with class notes. Judiciary is out of the question. You have learnt the 'art of sacrifice' whether it is friends, your internal assessment score which is proportional to the adulations, makeup and even your haircut!

Cher ami singe.... c`est la vie!
